I always thought highly of the Dancin', Good Lovin' and Stephen. MAMU is way cool too.

You can hear the Dead's transformation as 1970 became 1971. This show was actually part of their long transition. Songs such as "High Time" "Doin' That Rag" "Duprees" "New Potato" "The Eleven" which weren't that old were already phased out. "Dark Star" "Viola Lee" "Alligator" and the complete "That's It For The Other One" were becoming increasingly rare. "Truckin>Drums> Other One became the norm.

In its place were "Not Fade Away" "Going Down The Road Feeling Bad" "Truckin." By this time, "Not Fade Away" was already being overplayed to the extreme. At almost every show. And worse, they would end the show after the second "Not Fade Away." Something was definitely missing.

But at this show, after the obligatory "Not Fade Away" the Dead did the smart thing and continued on with "Turn On Your Lovelight." Always a great ending. The 10/24/70 "Lovelight" is great, and the show ends on a high note.

Definitely sound problems in this soundboard recording, but I do not agree with the other reviewers. This is a hot show, containing many great moments, and the Dead were alive from start to finish.

Subject: Hey man, 12-31-70 Show after Lovelight...!!!!
After Lovelight there are 6 more tracks, Dire Wolf, Cryptical Envelopment, Drums, The Other One, Black Peter and Sugar Magnolia. Dire Wolf through Black Peter are from 12-31-70. The Sound is Excellent, straight off the stereo board. Nothing like finding someting that ain't mentioned in the Deadlists Project..hmm.

The 10-24-70 sounds like its mono, and needs EQ. I guess the hippies took the drugs this night and forgot to flip the switch to record the stage mikes. Oh well, Peace and love, brother.

Great Show, the band sounds locked into the pocket. 2/4 rather than busy, busy, busy, bam crash.

Good Pigpen on organ and vocals. Lovelight is Hot..Good Lovin is hot too. I liked Pigpen on Oran, great licks.

1970...Nixon in the White House, Freaks in the streets, tube amps, leaded gas, pack a smokes for .25 cents and lids were $15. It is as if it was another planet...thanks to everyone for sharing this with us. Thanks for the love.

Kind of hard to tell if they're into it this night. They might be, but it sounds like we're listening through a wall.

Dancing in the Streets has the Dark Star dance step thing going on from 1970.
What's so bad about that and the sound.

The negative attitude gives the appearance that you{Whitelynx} are infact the completist and not the casual listener.
God forbid.

You walk thru and do the guitar on Good Lovin'.(Upstate New York) The site of the other Fillmore,whatever--------------

Is there a grudge against St.Louis or something?
I don't know too many people who can control the weather! Decks and all that shit.

Oh holy one really dug the shit out of St.Louis if some of you didn't know that.

Clear Light I'm glad this show makes you feel happy all these years later.

The sound quality is really dreadful for a SBD, even a 30 year old one... The show itself is pretty lame too when compared to the others of the period.

For collectors & completists... not the casual listener.

This was my first experience with the GD. Hadn't even heard any records yet. Hearing this show again 35 years later blew my mind. This is classic early Dead, bristling with raw energy, including a great performance of one of the few live executions of "Attics". At the end of this show, Phil came out to politely explain to the crowd that they were absolutely beat from a long hard tour and were going to forego an encore. Some dillhole up front apparently flipped him off and Phil made a stupid face, bent down and flipped him back. Right on, Phil!

I can't believe this is from the SoundBoard. Not only is this recording totally unbalanced in sound, the Dead sound, well, dead; like they are just walking thru it and not really into it.
